Crumb, Raleigh, NC

As the Cake Critic on the Internet, I was extremely happy when I learned I would be tasting a cupcake from Crumb on a food tour.
However, after tasting the cupcake, I wished I had not.

The cupcake was dry.  Super dry and almost like cornbread texture with a soft creamy lemon curd topping.  Not a good combination.  In fact, I'm not even sure where the lemon curd topping came into place.  It completely overpowered the cake, and the cake had no flavor at all.  The contrast between the dryness of the cake coupled with the gooey topping was all wrong.

Other people I was with had chocolate cupcakes with a raspberry on top. No one liked them as far as I know.  Although I did not taste the chocolate, I can say that the cake part was a bluish gray color and was very dry looking, as well.

I'm not sure if this was a bad batch or if this is normally how they are.  I really want to give them another chance so that I may improve this review but I have to be honest.  :(
