Cheese Wedding "Cakes"

No thanks.

Apparently a few brides are choosing a cheese tower that looks like it is a cake for the wedding reception.  Let me tell you how I would react to this little change of tradition.  I don't like it.

Wedding cake is a tradition at wedding receptions.  It has always been present, and I don't see why anyone should change that tradition in order to appear to be trendy.  If I went to a wedding reception that had a "cake" which later I find out was actually cheese, I would be aghast!  I would be completely disappointed and although it's not my wedding--I'm not even paying for it, it is customary to serve cake at the reception, not trick your guests into thinking there is cake when there is not.

If the problem is money, then I would hope a sheet cake would suffice back in the kitchen with a beautiful fake cake to cut into for the cake cutting ceremony.  However, cheese is expensive, so I don't see that being the issue.  To me it's all about being trendy, and trendy is good, but not when they take away "my" cake.

It's a cute idea.  But...let there be another cake present.  A tower of cake, cakeballs, cakepops, cupcakes, something---just let there be cake!
